A Day With St. Christopher’s School At Platts Transport

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of enthusiastic students from St. Christopher’s School in Wrexham, eager to explore the world of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and road safety.

At Platts Transport, we take pride in our commitment to knowledge dissemination and advocacy, especially in the realm of HGVs and road safety. When Careers Wales presented us with an opportunity to connect local youth with employers, we saw it as a perfect match.

To kick off the day, the students gained valuable insights into the inner workings of the Platts Group, delving into the intricate journey of our HGVs, from production site to deliveries.

Next, they participated in a session led by our skilled Class 1 Driver, Les. Through interactive demonstrations, students acquired practical skills for safely navigating HGVs and understanding blind spots. Les not only highlighted potential hazards but also shared invaluable tips for maintaining safety around these powerful machines.

Later on, the students visited our production site to witness our machines in action. Under the expert guidance of Ryan, Production Shift Supervisor, they even had the opportunity to sit in a Bobcat! Ryan also shared his career journey, offering inspiration and advice from his wealth of experience.

A huge thank you to all of the students for attending and Careers Wales for oganising. Supporting our local community is important to us, and if we can also share knowledge and contribute to safer roads, then that’s a bonus!
